Sounds complex, but it&#8217;s essentially an additional retirement savings system. The government decided that ZUS alone isn&#8217;t enough and created a&nbsp;system where you save money, your employer adds their share, and the state tops it up.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ppk-vs-zus-key-differences\"><\/span>PPK vs ZUS: key differences<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>ZUS<\/strong> is mandatory, money goes to current retirees. <strong>PPK<\/strong> is your personal account, the money is actually yours. Let&#8217;s look at an example.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"where-the-money-comes-from\"><\/span>Where the money comes from<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Let&#8217;s say you earn <strong>5,000 PLN gross<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your contribution (mandatory):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2% of gross = <strong>100 PLN<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Can increase to 4% (200 PLN)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Employer&#8217;s contribution (mandatory):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1.5% of gross = <strong>75 PLN<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Can increase to 4% (200 PLN)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>State subsidy:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>250 PLN<\/strong> &#8211; welcome payment (one-time)<\/li>\n<li><strong>240 PLN<\/strong> &#8211; annual subsidy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Total monthly: minimum <strong>175 PLN<\/strong>, of which only 100 is your money!<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"where-the-money-goes\"><\/span>Where the money goes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Money doesn&#8217;t sit idle, it&#8217;s <strong>invested<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stocks (Polish and global)<\/li>\n<li>Bonds (government and corporate)<\/li>\n<li>Real estate (through funds)<\/li>\n<li>Deposits (small portion)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The younger you are, the more in stocks (higher risk, but higher returns). Closer to retirement &#8211; more in bonds (safer).<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ppk-returns\"><\/span>PPK returns<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>For 2020-2024 average returns:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Aggressive funds<\/strong> &#8211; 5-12% annually<\/li>\n<li><strong>Balanced<\/strong> &#8211; 3-8% annually<\/li>\n<li><strong>Conservative<\/strong> &#8211; 2-5% annually<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But beware! There were also loss years. In 2022 many funds showed <strong>-10%<\/strong>. But then the employer will also contribute less. Not really worth it.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"can-cou-pay-more\"><\/span>Can cou pay more<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Yes! You can increase your contribution to <strong>4%<\/strong>. The employer can also (but doesn&#8217;t have to) increase to 4%. In theory, you can save up to <strong>8% of salary<\/strong>, but few people actually do this.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"withdrawing-funds\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"how-to-withdraw-ppk-money\"><\/span>How to withdraw PPK money<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The key question &#8211; <strong>how to get PPK money back<\/strong>?
