Temporary residence of Ukrainian citizens in Poland
According to the law, the residence of Ukrainian citizens who have been assigned a UKR PESEL number will be legal until 30 September 2025. Together with 2025, it will be possible to change the residence status from the current temporary protection to temporary residence, which will be more favourable.
The change of status to temporary residence will be possible for a Ukrainian citizen who meets the following requirements:
- will complete and update all necessary data in the UKR PESEL database at the authority
- submits an electronic application to the voivode
- has an active UKR status on 4 March 2024 and, on the date of submitting the application
- the security services will not object to the change of residence status
Upon successful completion of the procedure, the person will be issued with a residence card with the notation – ‘previously held temporary protection’. An application for a change will be able to be submitted at any time until March 2025 at the municipal office.
This solution will not take effect until next year. Individually, the refugee status will change when the Ukrainian citizen receives the granted card, which will be valid for 3 years.
